Nebraska Concealed Carry Course Outline

Section #1:

Student will be able to demonstrate through written testing knowledge of ways to avoid a criminal attack and to defuse or control a violent confrontation.

-         Conflict Resolution

-         Situational Awareness

-         Avoiding Criminal Attacks

 

 

Section #2

Student will be able to demonstrate through written testing and practical application knowledge and safe handling of a handgun.

-         Firearm Safety Rules

      -         Handgun Nomenclature

-         Firearm Safeties and their uses

-         Loading and Unloading of handguns

-     Concealed Carry Techniques

-   Holsters and methods of concealed carry

 

 

Section #3

Demonstrate through written testing and practical application knowledge and safe handling of handgun ammunition.

-         Nomenclature of ammunition

-         Use of Factory vs. reloaded ammunition

-         Inspection of ammunition

-     Care and storage of ammunition

-         Identifying misfires and squib loads

-    Avoiding lead contamination

 

Section #4

Demonstrate through written testing knowledge of proper storage practices for handguns and ammunition, including storage practices, which would reduce the possibility of accidental injury to a child.

-         Use of Safes

-         Various handgun locking devices

-         Separate storage of handguns and ammunition

-         Cleaning and maintenance of handguns

-     General Steps to cleaning a handgun:

 

-         State Statutes 28-1204 to 28-1404.01

 

 

 

Section #5

Demonstrate through written testing and practical application safe handgun shooting fundamentals.

-         Stance

-     Grip

-         Sight alignment

-         Trigger Control/ Trigger Squeeze

-         Breathing

-         Follow Through

 

Section #6

Demonstrate through written testing knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws pertaining to the purchase, ownership, transportation and possession of handguns.

-         State Statutes 28-1201 to 28-1212.02

-         Snowmobiles 60-6,342 to 60-6,344

-         Handgun Purchase permits 69-2401 to 69-2426

-         Procedures for contact with Law Enforcement Officers and Emergency Medical Services Personnel.

-         Required Documents – Drivers License or State ID card and CCW Permit

-         Locations CCW is not allowed

-         Cities/Towns of Nebraska that have local ordinances prohibiting CCW

-         City of Omaha Ordinance pertaining to open carry of handguns and required registration of handguns.

 

Section #7

Demonstrate through written testing knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws pertaining to the use of a handgun, including, but not limited to, use of a handgun for self-defense and laws relating to justifiable homicide and the various degrees of assault.

-         State Statutes

o       Use of Force 28-1406 to 28-1416

o       Terroristic Threats 28-311.01

o       Assault 1st – 3rd Degree 28-308 to 28-310

-         Federal Law

o       Title 18 and 27 USC

-         Local Laws

 

 

Section #8

Review the Rules / Regulations of the Concealed Handgun Permit Act.

 

 

Section #9  

      -         Shooting Practice

-         Local Shooting Sports

-         Other State Non-Resident Concealed Carry Permits

 

 

Review Important Points for the test

 

 

Written Test

-         Tests will be graded immediately

-         30 questions

-         70% score needed to pass (Need at lest 21 correct)

 

 

Range

-         Review the Rules of the range

-         Present the qualification “course of fire” and targets.

-         Precision Shooting exercise

-         Unloaded draw and dry fire practice drills

-         Decision making drills “Shoot/Don’t Shoot”

-         Qualification

 

 

Completion of the Class

-         Certificate of Completion awarded

 

 

 

***Note this class is designed to meet the requirements set forth by the Nebraska State Patrol, for the purpose of obtaining a Concealed Handgun Permit. This class is not the NRA Basic Pistol class.
